A marketing campaign can be greatly enhanced through the use of animal photography images in advertising. The splendour and beauty of a leopard posing on the cover of a hotel’s brochure will surely make you long for Africa. Similarly, a photo of a bear in the woods, will make you want to camp in the forest. Most people respond well to a picture of an animal in a comical situation, an animal in distress or need and an animal expressing emotions that humans can identify with. The most likely reason for the success of animal photography for commercial use is that most people are in awe of nature and may even like animals more than they like humans.
Animal photography images in advertising can convey different messages and emotions. A cat stuck in a tree can convey helplessness and despair. A dog next to his master can convey loyalty. Recently, an e-mail that did the rounds was of a hippo that saved a baby zebra out of crocodile infested waters. This picture alone conveyed bravery, love and determination. Adverts that have animal photography in them are, for example, the Fish Eagle advert as well as the dog in the Hilux advert and other print adverts for car manufacturers such as Volkswagen.
Animal photography is a specialised field in photography which only photographers with a great amount of patience, determination and a love of nature can pursue.
